Great for The Price

This is the second set of Northwest’s own brand machine heads that I have bought. That in itself tells you that they are OK IMO. They are very good for the money. Obviously they are not going to be of the same quality as say, Schallers but they do a pretty good job for a third of the price. I have used them in new builds, so I don’t know how easy they are to drop into a Squier bass. They look identical to the machine heads used by Sire on the U5 short scale, which is a quality little bass. I like the fact they have a relatively compact base plate, so I imagine they will fit multiple Fender style headstocks. They have a nice action and seem pretty stable. One of the previous batch I bought lost the plating on the gears quite quickly but it doesn’t seem to affect the function, so it is purely cosmetic. They are not the lightest tuners around, so they are not going to help if you have neck dive issues but if you are contemplating them, you are probably stuck with 18mm holes in your headstock. I doubt they are heavier than the OEM fitting on basses like the Squier Jazz and Precision offerings. Definitely worth considering for replacement or new builds.
