Wilkinson WJ28N ‘Waverly-Style” Mmachine heads with butterbean tuning keys

Designed for guitars that require 3 tuners on each side of the headstock. Each machine head features an open back with exposed solid metal gears, and a gear ratio of 1:19 for excellent tuning accuracy.

Wilkinson Open Gear Guitar Machine heads

You might think that these are somehow lesser quality than, for example, Grovers, other makes are available. You`d be wrong, I have both, and the Wilkinsons are just as good in fit and finish. The 19-1 gearing might not suit everybody but if you have a mechanical or electric string winder, it`s just an advantage to have the finer adjustment. How long lasting these will be in daily use remains to be seen, but they are plated steel with brass gears, so no different to other machine heads that have given good service for many years.
I will admit that they were chosen on price as well as quality - I already have Wilkinson machines on an electric 12 string, and they`ve done well. They are practical, reliable and they have the advantage of having a decent length of shaft which allows the tuning buttons a decent clearance from the headstock.
