Nitrocellulose Chip Repair/Touch-up Paint

We stock a wide range of high quality nitrocellulose lacquers and paints suitable for use on any guitar project. We’ve produced a range of colours found on popular guitar models and used our own Strat and Tele bodies for reference This is the same type of lacquer as used on vintage Fender and Gibson guitars which, over time, will produce an aged, tarnished look to your instrument. These are true lacquers, as used by top guitar makers since the 1950s. They dry very quickly and produce a hard glassy finish, unlike other “pre-cat” lacquers These paints and lacquers are very easy to apply and generally require no sanding in-between coats.

50ml of neat nitro

Each pot contains 50ml of neat nitrocellulose which can be applied directly to the wood surface.
This lacquer can be thinned with cellulose thinners if required though this is not necessary for scratch & chip repairs

*Colour may vary slightly dedending on number of coats applied, wood type and preperation method. Use only in a well ventilated area. Suitable breathing apparatus should be worn

Heritage Cherry - too dark

Took a very small chip out of my Heritage Cherry Gibson SG by accident and so bought this to just dab into the chip and build back up. The service from Northwest Guitars was great and although the paint pot is quite small, there's loads for what it's intended for (chip repair) the colour was instantly too dark. It looks like it should be fine in the tin, but as soon as it went on the exposed wood, it was definitely darker than the surrounding area. I checked both my guitar and paint pot just to make sure it wasn't a mistake, and both are Heritage Cherry. It does state that colour may vary depending on use etc, but I would expect a better colour match even with that caveat. It's repaired the chip, but is very visible as a much darker red (almost a very dark crimson) and stands out quite a bit as a dark 'blotch', so not really very happy with that. At least it's protected though, but a bit disappointed.

Making my Les Paul look years younger

No matter how you try to keep your treasured guitar safe, if you play in public places you`re going to have accidental damage & wear & tear. This paint goes on easily, I use cotton buds to dab on the dings. Use small amounts and build up gradually. Let the paint dry hard, then rub down gently with fine wet & dry paper, a tiny piece is best to avoid damaging surrounding finish. Polish with T-Cut or Brasso. It doesn`t have to be perfect, your guitar will regain it`s looks. 50ml of touch up paint will do an awful lot of repairs.
