Product details

The City Limits set is designed to offer guitarists a hotter Stratocaster sound with unrivalled versatility. The neck and mid pickups are wound to emulate the sought-after “overwound” late 50’s-style pickups that vintage collectors have found to have a rich piano-like bass and thick trebles – a tone that has become known as the “Texas” sound.  The bridge pickup, however, is a departure from the standard winds and is overwound with lighter gauge AWG43 gauge wire to approximately 9.0kOhms for a more modern soloing sound when used with gain or distortion, without a harsh top end.

Due to advances in string technology and the wider range of modern guitar necks, the City Limits set uses our unique “Modified Vintage Stagger” polepiece magnet array allowing for near perfect string-to-string balance on the greatest range of instruments possible.  Get them in any Strat and find that hotter, fatter Texas tone you’ve been waiting for.

Awesome upgrade for Squier CV 50s Strat

I plugged straight into my amp, only at home volume, and it was like playing a new guitar. Not kidding.
Tone controls on positions (1 3 & 5) seem much more responsive (in both cutting or boosting the highs & lows) and positions 4 and 2 sound great. All five positions delivering those 'Strat tones' in spades.
The bridge is fabulous and  was exactly the uplift I was looking for - delivering a pokier and growly tone that can be tamed by dialling volume and tone back.
Bang for buck is exceptional. I honestly can't see boutique units costing nearly three times the price making me any happier with the sound I'm getting now.

Awesome Strat Pickups

I'm a bit of a Tonerider fan, I have a set of P90 rebels in one guitar, a set of Panama's in another, a telecaster with a set of Vintage Plus's and now one with a set of City Limits - all really good pickups, warm where they need to be and a bit spikey where they don't but above all they are all wonderfuly clear sounding. They feel like a quality product as well and all this for ridiculously good prices for what you get. The City Limits are great Stratocaster pickups, all positions are useful and they are seriously quiet - at least in my guitar. Highly recommended!

City Limits Set: Surprisingly Good!

I was looking for a strat set that sounded very stratty. This set, the Fender Texas Specials and the Fender '63 set were the ones I was looking at. Eventually I settled on these because they had to be worth a punt at the price.
What a difference! Worth every penny. The neck and middle are standard early '60s-ish, with a slightly hotter bridge for lead work.
Exactly what I was looking for, for a fraction of the price of the Fender pups. Absolutely transformational.

Tonerider City Limits Pickup Set

I wanted to get as close as possible to a Rory Gallagher Strat guitar tone on a budget ~ these pickups hit the spot!
