Mini Toggle Switches for Guitar Mods

Mini toggle switches are a favourite among guitar modders and builders for adding extra tone-shaping options in compact spaces. Whether you're installing a coil split, a kill switch, or a full pickup selector, there's a mini toggle to suit your setup.

🎧 Why Use Mini Toggle Switches in Guitars?

Mini toggle switches are ideal for:

  • Custom wiring mods without drilling large holes

  • Adding functionality without altering your guitar's appearance

  • Precise switching control in tight control cavities

They're commonly found on guitars with custom circuits, and are often used in:

  • Coil tapping/splitting

  • Series/parallel switching

  • Pickup selection

  • Phase reversal

  • Kill switches

🔧 Common Types of Mini Toggle Switches

Here's a quick breakdown of the most useful types for guitar applications:

1. SPDT ON-ON

  • Simple 2-position switch

  • Commonly used for kill switches or Gilmour-style neck pickup activation

2. DPDT ON-ON

  • Controls two circuits at once (e.g. phase switch, coil split, or series/parallel)

3. DPDT ON-ON-ON

  • Acts as a full 3-way pickup selector (Neck / Neck+Bridge / Bridge)

  • Compact alternative to a full-size toggle switch

4. DPDT ON-OFF-ON

  • Adds a middle off position to a standard 2-circuit switch

  • Perfect for series/off/parallel or in-phase/off/out-of-phase wiring

5. SPST ON-OFF

  • Single circuit kill switch or LED control

🎓 Mini Toggle Switch Wiring Tips

  • Always double-check terminal layout: not all switches wire the same

  • Use heat shrink or tape to prevent shorts in tight cavities

  • DPDT switches can be wired like two SPDTs side by side

  • Centre terminals are usually the "common" or input lugs
