Speaker vs Instrument Cables

A cable is a cable right? Not quite unfortunately. A typical guitar cable is low power and high impedance, that is it's designed to take a weak signal from your guitar, to be boosted by your amplifier. A speaker cable on the other hand is quite the opposite, high power and low impedance. This is because it's designed to deliver a strong signal, say from a pre-amp, to a set of speakers. Due to the increased load required when connecting a PA system or Audio Interface to a set of speakers, an instrument cable won't suffice when you start crank the volume, resulting in break up, distortion, and other unwanted audio artifcacts. The wire in a standard instrument cable is a smaller gauge than that of a speaker cable, so it's ability to carry increased loads is diminished.
